Botox is the most popular treatment for fighting the signs of aging. It helps eliminate wrinkles and frown lines to help make you look visibly younger. Many people, including Hollywood celebrities, get Botox brow lifts to treat forehead wrinkles, glabellar frown lines between the eyebrows and crow’s feet next to the eyes.

A Botox brow lift involves injecting Botox or botulinum toxin type A into the forehead muscles. Botox relaxes the forehead muscles and the muscles between the brows. This lifts the height of your eyebrows to make them appear natural and high-arching. It also makes your skin smooth and wrinkle-free.

Botox Brow Lift Benefits

The advantages of a Botox brow lift include:

  • Simple, minimally-invasive, and nonsurgical procedure
  • Quick recovery time
  • Removes stubborn wrinkles and glabellar lines created by muscle movement
  • Subtly raises and reshapes your eyebrows smoothly and naturally
  • Helps open up droopy eyes
  • Relaxes forehead muscles and prevents new wrinkles and frown lines

Who It Is for

Your forehead skin starts wrinkling or sagging due to muscle weakness as you age. Even your eyelids stretch as supporting muscles weaken over time. People often use over-the-counter anti-aging treatments to treat wrinkles. If that doesn’t work for you, you may want to consider a Botox brow lift.

A Botox brow lift is a muscle lift that treats sagging skin, droopy eyelids, moderate or severe forehead wrinkles, or frown lines. The treatment is available for adults 18 and older. People may also opt for a blepharoplasty, a surgical procedure that repairs droopy eyelids.1

Consult your doctor before you get a Botox brow lift. They’ll check for any risk factors before the procedure. Doctors recommend avoiding Botox if you’re pregnant or breastfeeding, as research shows botulinum toxin may affect unborn babies.2

Procedure

A Botox brow lift is a simple, almost painless procedure requiring no surgery. You’ll enter your doctor’s office, get the injection, and be out in a few minutes.

Before the procedure, your doctor may ask you to stop taking blood-thinning medications. They may use an anesthetic cream in your brow area to reduce pain during the injection. For most people, the injection is relatively painless, but you may feel some discomfort.

Your doctor will inject Botox into the forehead muscles and may apply additional injections at the ends of your eyebrows to relax those muscles. This helps your forehead muscles lift the brow properly. The amount of lift can vary depending on your age and the muscle tone of your forehead.

Cost

The cost of a Botox brow lift can vary depending on your location and how much Botox is used. It can be anywhere from $500 to $1,000 per session. Health insurance doesn’t cover a Botox brow lift because it is a cosmetic procedure.

Recovery

People prefer Botox over traditional brow lift surgery because it has a quick recovery time. You may feel some discomfort from the injection, but it won’t last long. After the procedure, you can quickly get back to your daily activities. However, your doctor may ask you to avoid exercise and bending down for 24 hours after the procedure.3

Results

Botox brow lift results appear within one week after treatment, and the results are similar to a surgical eyebrow lift.

The average eyebrow lift is reported to be 1 millimeter and 4.8 millimeters from the center and sides, respectively.4 Your doctor may also recommend getting a blepharoplasty along with Botox for more natural appearing results.

The results of a Botox brow lift are not permanent. The American Academy of Dermatology Association reports that Botox brow lifts last for three to four months on average.5 After six months, you may notice wrinkles or frown lines reappear between your brows.

Every few months, you’ll need to visit your doctor for additional injections to maintain the brow lift. Your doctor will keep you informed about follow-up treatment.

Risks and Complications

Botox brow lift injections are safe for most people, but there may be side effects. After the injection, some people may see redness, swelling, or bruising at the treatment site. These side effects go away within a week.

Some other side effects of Botox brow lift can be headaches and pain or numbness at the treatment site. It doesn’t usually have serious side effects, but some people can have complications. If you experience any of these symptoms, consult your doctor immediately:

  • Breathing problems
  • Droopy brows or eyelids
  • Difficulty eating or swallowing
  • Difficulty or changes in speech

If you get a brow lift surgery or blepharoplasty along with a Botox brow lift, you may be at a higher risk of side effects like infections. Avoid buying Botox products online or getting treatment from facilities other than clinics of qualified doctors. If a Botox brow lift is done incorrectly, it can result in drooping brows or an asymmetrical lift, with one eyebrow higher than the other. It can also lead to severe, life-threatening complications like paralysis, Bell’s palsy, and permanent eye damage.6

Learn More About Botox

A Botox brow lift is an effective procedure for treating wrinkles or frown lines between your eyebrows. However, the results of a Botox brow lift are temporary. You may need multiple follow-up treatments to maintain the brow lift. Consult your doctor before getting a Botox treatment to discuss possible risk factors.
